Hiya, I’m Beck…

…and I work in food development, which is a fancy way of saying I spend most of my time thinking about, making, eating, and talking about food. I love everything about it — from how it tastes to how it looks — and I’m rarely happier than when I’m creating dishes or taking photos of them before they get eaten.

I’ve spent the last 25 years working in hospitality, so I’ve pretty much grown up in kitchens, pubs, and restaurants. These days I work for a large pub company, developing menus across a range of different brands. It’s a brilliant mix of creativity, problem-solving, and making sure the food is as delicious for customers as it is realistic for teams to deliver.

I’m a big believer in travel as a form of food research and love discovering new flavours and dishes from all over the world. While I’ll never turn down the chance to eat out, I’m just as happy cooking and eating at home, experimenting with ideas and recreating things I’ve tasted on my travels. Basically, if it involves food — at home, in a pub, or somewhere far away — I’m in.

When I’m not thinking about my next meal, I’m based in Bristol, where I live with my wife and our dachshund, Merlin. He’s small, stubborn, and very convinced that all food is for him — which keeps life (and cooking) entertaining.
